Liposuction Surgery in New York
What Areas Can You Treat with Lipo?
Dr. Barrientos Helps Patients Remove Stubborn Fat with Lipo in New Hartford, New York
It can be incredibly frustrating for men and women who are maintaining a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly but still experience issues with stubborn fat. Liposuction is an excellent option for slimming those troubled areas resistant to diet and exercise and reshaping and contouring the body.
Liposuction, sometimes referred to as “lipo” by patients, is a type of fat removal procedure used in plastic surgery that removes localized collections of fat from various parts of the body, such as the hips, abdomen, back and arms. When you gain weight, fat cells increase in size and volume. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in a specific area. Lipo 360 is also a procedure offered which is an all-inclusive liposuction procedure used to contour and shape the midsection, 360 degrees around. The possible areas for treatment are the upper and lower abdominals, the flanks on both sides, and the lower and mid-back. The resulting contour changes are generally permanent, as long as your weight remains stable.
When suctioning the fat, the skin molds itself to the new contours of the treated area where the excess fat has been removed. If your skin has good elasticity and collagen, the skin is likely to appear smooth and tight. If your skin has poor elasticity, the skin in the treated areas will appear loose. Women or men who have significant loose skin and stretch marks may be a better candidate for a tummy tuck or maybe a combination of both lipo and a tummy tuck.
Dr. Barrientos has years of experience performing various plastic surgery procedures including liposuction, tummy tucks, breast augmentation and more. Once you schedule your consultation, Dr. Barrientos will evaluate your skin quality, and your goals for the surgery and recommend what procedures would be best and discuss realistic results with you.
What Are The Benefits of Liposuction?
There are many benefits to having liposuction such as:
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells. Once fat cells are removed they will not grow back. This does not mean that fat won’t grow in other areas of your body, so it’s important after liposuction to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain your weight so you don’t gain weight in other areas.
Minimal scarring. With liposuction, only small incisions are made so patients walk away with having little to no scarring once the incisions heal.
Liposuction is a safe removal of fat. What is removed is a pure form of fat, free of blood. Liposuction is typically an outpatient procedure, and patients are usually back on their feet after two days of rest.
Removes fat that diet and exercise can’t. No matter how well you eat or work out, there is just some fat that just won’t go away. Liposuction adds to diet and exercise by slimming the stubborn areas that do not respond to these efforts. In fact, liposuction is often done on patients that are physically active and healthy eaters but just can’t seem to drop unwanted fat in problem areas like love handles, abdomen, back and arms.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Liposuction?
It is important to set realistic expectations for what results you will achieve with your liposuction procedure.
It is important to note that liposuction is not intended to be used as a weight reduction solution for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Liposuction cannot remove cellulite, stretch marks or excess skin. It is important to discuss with your plastic surgeon your specific goals, so we can find the best procedure or combination of procedures to help reach your intended results. Good candidates for liposuction are:
- Within 30% of their ideal weight
- Have firm, elastic skin
- Nonsurgical management like diet and exercise hasn’t worked
- Doctors don’t recommend the procedure if you have health problems with blood flow or have heart disease, diabetes, or a weak immune system.
Liposuction is commonly done in conjunction with other procedures, like abdominoplasty if you are looking to remove excess skin in addition to removing fat. Consult with your surgeon and talk about your goals, the options, the risks and benefits, and the costs. Ask all your questions. To learn more, schedule your free consultation with Dr. Barrientos.

What Should You Expect
The Steps of a Liposuction Procedure
Step 1 – Anesthesia
Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. The choices include local anesthesia, intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.
Step 2 – The incision
Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions.
A cannula (thin hollow tube) is inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat. This is done through a back and forth motion. After the fat has been dislodged, it is suctioned out of the body by using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
Step 3 – The results
Your improved body contour will be apparent once the swelling and fluid retention commonly experienced following liposuction subside.
Recovery After Your Fat Removal Procedure
You should expect to go home after the procedure, so make sure you have someone to drive you home afterward. After liposuction surgery, bruising, swelling and soreness is common for at least a few weeks.
You may be required to wear a compression garment for 1 to 2 months after surgery to control swelling. Antibiotics are also administered to prevent infection. You can start walking immediately after the procedure, and most patients return to work within a few days and get back to normal activities 2 weeks after the procedure, but every person is different, so these time frames will vary for each patient.
Additionally, small drains may be placed in the surgical incisions to remove any excess fluid or blood. These are usually removed around five to ten days after the operation. Your improved body contour will be apparent when the swelling and fluid retention from the liposuction procedure subside.

Long story short, I had surgery out of state, Miami to be exact. I return back to NY without my drainages (nurses took them out a few days after surgery) and I ended up catching three or more infections and no one from the Upstate NY area, as far as plastic surgeons, wanted to take my case. But Barrientos did and I owe this man my life as you can see by my before and after photos he stood by me the whole way through I was in the hospital for almost two months and Lord did he go above and beyond. Not only can he bless you with a new body, he’s able to fix the damage others have done to you. Thank you so much I would’ve die if it wasn’t for you and your team🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
